Ep419 – Hip Hop News Uncensored

Ep419 – Hip Hop News Uncensored

If you’re looking for a show that thinks R Kelly was framed by the feds, Bill Cosby is completely innocent, and Jaguar Wright is credible, I recommend Hip Hop News Uncensored. What’s the winning formula? Bring on batshit crazy guests and offer zero resistance to their nonsense.

Trucker Andy joins the show to talk about how much of a crush he has on Jaguar. Then we have the first batch of Patty Pukewater song parodies. After that, Ed the Editor joins the show for our new Punching Sideways segment featuring a podcast called Star Wars in Character. Then Nasty Al joins to tell us his experience at Chad Zumock’s standup show over the weekend. Cardiff received an email from the Zman that is literally illegal. Tommy from MSCS is still talking about space and aliens as if he isn’t an expert. All that and Maribeth with reviews and To Catch An Alien.

How to weave a cultural legacy through storytelling | Cohen Bradley

Highlighting the significance of potlatch ceremonies (or gift-giving feasts) and other Indigenous traditions of the Haida Nation, Bradley shares why we all should prioritize our collective legacies -- and how they live on through the stories we tell.

Caroline Rose

Caroline Rose
Singer/songwriter Caroline Rose has always been a character. Her music videos often feature Caroline as the screwball lead, navigating ambition, desire and super stardom. Now, on her latest album, The Art of Forgetting, Caroline is shedding all of the past pretense and offering up an unflinching look into her inner life in the midst of personal turmoil. The result is an album packed with clever lyricism and soaring arrangements produced by Caroline with help from Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso.

On today’s episode, Broken Record producer Leah Rose talks to Caroline Rose about why she wanted to set her living room on fire for the sake of her album art. Caroline also shares an early demo of a song she wrote under a starry desert sky, and she explains how aside from herself, Caroline’s parents are her harshest critics.

You can hear a playlist of some of our favorite Caroline Rose songs HERE.

Eye in the Sky

Eye in the Sky
Ross McNutt has a superpower: he can zoom in on everyday life, then rewind and fast-forward to solve crimes in a shutter-flash. But should he?

In 2004, when casualties in Iraq were rising due to roadside bombs, Ross McNutt and his team came up with an idea. With a small plane and a 44 megapixel camera, they figured out how to watch an entire city all at once, all day long. Whenever a bomb detonated, they could zoom into that spot and then, because this eye in the sky had been there all along, they could scroll back in time and see—literally see—who planted it. After the war, Ross McNutt retired from the Air Force, and brought this technology back home with him. Manoush Zomorodi and Alex Goldmark (from the podcast Note to Self) give us the lowdown on Ross’ unique brand of persistent surveillance, from Juarez, Mexico to Dayton, Ohio. Then, once we realize what we can do, we wonder whether we should.
