692: The Show of Delights
In these dark, combative times, we attempt the most radical counterprogramming we could imagine: a show made up entirely of stories about delight.

- Prologue: Ira Glass talks to Bim Adewunmi about her understanding of delight through American pop culture and the summer she spent in the US as a 19-year-old. Ira then hands the show over to Bim as guest host. (10 minutes)

- Act One: Bim talks to poet Ross Gay, whose book inspired today’s show, about the discipline and rigor of seeking and holding onto delight. (8 minutes)

- Act Two: Producer Robyn Semien captures a special morning for her five-year-old son, Cole, who is doing something delightful for the very first time: he’s getting to ride the school bus. (4 minutes)

- Act Three: Producer Miki Meek speaks to Noriko Meek, her 72-year-old mother, about discovering delight late in life. (8 minutes)

- Act Four: Producer Dana Chivvis follows the night zookeeper at the Denver Zoo as she doles out snacks and tucks the animals in. (9 minutes)

- Act Five: What happens when a dealer of delight gets depressed? Podcast host Tracy Clayton talks to Bim Adewunmi about the road back. (17 minutes)

Dave Smith on Libertarianism and America as an Empire

Dave Smith on Libertarianism and America as an Empire
Adam hangs with comedian and host of ‘Legion of Skanks’, Dave Smith in Dr. Drew’s New York City apartment. They talk about how life will make you less funny if you let it beat you down which leads to a discussion about red collar beat downs versus blue collar beat downs. Dave explains the reason he is a libertarian before they get into school choice, the difficulties of trying to have a rational debate with people who say nothing substantial, and how you have to overcome feeling sorry for yourself in order to be successful. Next, Dave shares his thoughts on how America really is an empire and Adam laments about the federal government being forced to come down on citizens to create a political talking point. Finally, Adam shares his take on the John Cusack film ‘2012’ and why politicians should be held accountable when they get things wrong. Clarence & Ginni Thomas' Path To Power

Clarence & Ginni Thomas' Path To Power
As controversy swirls around Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife Ginni over financial benefits they received for years from a Texas billionaire, we look at the formative influences on the Washington power couple. Filmmaker Michael Kirk's FRONTLINE PBS documentary examines Clarence Thomas's early years, where he endured poverty, hardship and discrimination in the Jim Crow South. After a period as a Black Power activist in college, he began to criticize affirmative action and build ties with conservative Republicans, leading eventually to his seat on the Supreme Court. He teamed up with and married Ginni Lamp, who grew up surrounded by far-Right conservatives. Kirk's documentary is Clarence and Ginni Thomas: Politics, Power and the Supreme Court.
